Doubling of figure in less than one year represents significant scale up of Unicef NEXTGen fundraising model

15 March 2018 – Today, Unicef Next Generation London, an innovative fundraising group based in the capital, announces it has raised more than £2 million for Unicef, supporting their vital work for the children of Syria. Having surpassed £1m raised since the group’s 2014 inception in June 2017, the doubling of this figure in less than one year represents a significant scaling up of the Unicef NEXTGen fundraising model.

Unicef NEXTGen London is a community that incubates members’ creative and unique ideas to fundraise, advocate, and educate their community. Alongside full time careers, they also provide skills and pro bono consulting in support of Unicef’s work in Syria and the region.

The incredible total raised by the group – set up in 2014 by Layla Yarjani and Hortense Decaux, who now lead the initiative across Europe – is the result of a series of diverse fundraising events and initiatives, including the highly-successful #CookForSyria and MIGRATE campaigns.

On surpassing the two million pound mark, Unicef NEXTGen London co-chairs Linda Blank and Noura Al-Maashouq, said: “On behalf of the Unicef NEXTGen London community, we’re so proud to announce that we’ve raised more than £2 million for Unicef, supporting their work for Syrian children. With the conflict in its seventh year, we are infinitely grateful for our community’s commitment and boundless generosity. We will continue to create innovative and impactful opportunities to fundraise and advocate to ensure the children of Syria grow up in safety and with dignity.”

The money raised has supported Unicef’s vital work for the children of Syria who, after seven years of war, still face violence, displacement, disease and starvation every day. Unicef teams are working around the clock to provide families in desperate need with life-saving food and clean water, health care, psychosocial programmes, and to help children get an education.

Mike Penrose, Unicef UK Executive Director, said: “Due to their passion, determination and creativity, the Unicef NEXTGen London team should be immensely proud of reaching the £2m milestone. Doubling the £1m figure in less than a year is a testament to their hard work and commitment, as well as to the innovative fundraising model they have established. The funds will have a huge impact in the lives of Syrian children who are still facing danger every day after seven years of war”.

NEXTGen London members have been also been involved in Unicef’s campaigning for the children of Syria and, through their networks, have donated their consultancy services to Unicef UK.
