8 April Tehran, Iran – UNICEF welcomes the ceasefire as a critical step that offers hope to children and families in Iran who have endured immense suffering.
Even as the skies fall silent and the strikes cease, the impact of violence on children will have long-lasting consequences and must not be overlooked. UNICEF mourns every child lost and expresses profound sorrow for all children affected. Children who should have been safe in their homes, communities, and classrooms, learning, growing and dreaming.
UNICEF’s thoughts are with the families, communities, and all those whose lives have been forever changed.
Throughout the conflict, UNICEF has remained active and operational in Iran, working with partners to deliver support to children and families across multiple sectors, including health services, mental health and psychosocial support, deploying pre-positioned health supplies, mobile health units, primary health care tents, and emergency health kits to help restore access to essential services for affected populations, alongside the provision of vaccines and psychosocial support for children and communities.
UNICEF remains committed to scaling up its support, in line with its country programme of cooperation, across Health and Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, WASH, Emergency Response, and Social Protection, ensuring that children and families receive the care, protection, and support they need to recover and rebuild.
Every child deserves peace. Every child deserves a future.
