UNICEF UK responds to the Government's Child Poverty Strategy

London, Thursday 4 December 2025: Today the Child Poverty Taskforce has revealed their strategy to tackle child poverty in the UK.

Dr Philip Goodwin, Chief Executive Officer of The UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK) said: “Ending the two-child limit and today’s Child Poverty Strategy marks a turning point for children and struggling families in the UK. For the first time in nearly a decade, tackling child poverty is firmly back on the national agenda as a priority for ambitious action. This will improve life for millions of children in the UK.

“The UK saw the sharpest increase in child poverty of any wealthy nation between 2013 and 2023. This strategy sets out commitments to chart a new course, which must be matched with long-term action to tackle child poverty and inequality at its roots to ensure every child has the very best start in life.”
