Iain Place explains why he included UNICEF in his Will
Legacy gifts are vital to our work to keep children protected around the world. By leaving a gift in your will you can help to ensure more children are vaccinated and can access quality education in the future. UNICEF UK supporter, Iain Place tells us in his own words the reasons for his support and how he made the special decision to remember UNICEF in his Will.
Although I think most people have heard of UNICEF and of the good work they do all over the world, I was not really aware of the full extent of their help available. Now I know it continues, years later, after the media spotlight has found a new disaster to shock us.
This was to change when I watched a travel documentary about Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman attempting to travel by motorcycle from London to New York called The Long Way Round. During their adventure they visited various UNICEF projects, not only dealing with medical, but also educational and mental welfare in places like Chernobyl.
I was so shocked by what I saw that I picked up the telephone and made my first donation. That was back in 2005.
In these past 10 years, I have been lucky enough to be able to increase the quantity of my donations. So when it came to arranging my Will, UNICEF UK was mentioned.
I will not be alive to witness my biggest donation to UNICEF.
Yet after I have gone, somewhere in this world I hope I might help UNICEF give the gift of life to a child, or educate them, or maybe just make them forget the horrors that surround them for an all too brief time, and play.
