Manchester United has been working with UNICEF since 1999 through the 'United for UNICEF' partnership. The club has raised over £2.5 million for UNICEF programmes which has benefited more than 2.2 million children worldwide. To date the partnership is the longest collaboration between a football club and a global charity.
In October 2011, Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill visited Senegal to see the work that UNICEF has achieved with help from the Manchester United Partnership. David Gill visited the M’bour district health centre, one of the 35 health centres funded by the partnership, and met mothers and their babies who are receiving life-saving treatment. In Senegal, one child in every eleven will die before their 5th birthday. Therefore, the project is providing life saving support. The 35 child survival centres are equipping Mums and babies with everything they need, from Malaria nets to vaccines.
